THE COUNTDOWN IS ON - FINKE DESERT RACE

As we get set to head to Alice Springs in June for the Finke Desert Race, all the feels set in. The highs and lows, the emotions that race prep and lead up to race weekend throws, it’s a reminder what our sport is all about.

Off-roading is just that it’s off-roading, what a part of the track is for one car is very different for the next, or for the return or next lap.

Track conditions vary and change considerably and consistently  be it ruts, be it how wet or dry the track is, arrows down, wind will reflect the dust levels, sun coming up and blinding you making visibility challenging.  It’s all part of our sport and you are always driving to variable conditions.

As a team you always want a good result but above all this you always want your entire team together at the end of the day.

A driver and navi job wholly and souly is to drive that car to the conditions the best they can, as fast as that is, and at the end of the day be home safely.

It’s a fine line in Motorsport, driving to comfort levels, pushing harder and being at the pointy end or pushing that little too hard and not finishing. Finke campaigns are different for everyone, some teams are heading for the win or a podium spot, others are chasing championship points, while many are there to say they have been part of this iconic event and not just started but finished.

Success at a race in its traditional nature is there and back and crossing the finish line, but with Finke and off-roading success sometimes is sitting around a campfire with your family, friends and team mates and making the memories, talking about the race that was.

Off-road racing is not only about that number one spot and being fast, it is about being with your team at the end of the day sharing these moments and making memories.

Finke preps play a massive part in your success at this event, as does track conditions, nature and weather. Qualifying well also plays a big part to ensure best start position and not being caught up in dust and a slower field. Track knowledge and experience will and has always been relevant in the case of this event.

Experience and mileage on the job not only means you can be at the pointy end but in off-roading when the nature  and terrain of our sport throws a curve ball you know how to drive yourself out in a way that keeps you and your navi safe in an unpredictable track moment and this is what makes an incredible and experienced driver.

We can all love a seamless perfect campaign in motorsport, but when you are adding in elements of dust, mud and nature there is rarely the dream run down and back, but half the fun of the sport is listening as the helmet comes off in the small town of Finke and the campfires get lit and the stories start to get told.

Arriving into Finke to be with family, friends and the team safely to enjoy cook ups , sunset and make memories under the outback sky is first and foremost what off-roading and our sport is all about.

We couldnt be more excited to part of everything Finke Desert Race has to offer this year, the countdown is on, and for us we will be spending our time capturing as much content of the cars, the bikes, the landscape and everything the outback decides to delivery come June 7th - 10th.
